Established in 1977, Pacific Rim Shellfish D.B.A. The Lobster Man is one of the first live shellfish markets in Vancouver, British Columbia and an original tenant of Granville Island. Today, we have grown into an established major exporter for live shellfish in a variety of international markets including China, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, the USA, and Europe.

Our History
The Process
We work directly with fishermen and farmers to source premium quality Canadian shellfish. Most of our shellfish is predominately sourced on the West Coast of Canada. All of our farmers use sustainable aquaculture harvesting methods and only harvest within areas where the water quality is regularly tested and monitored by Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Our fishermen also work closely with Fisheries and Oceans Canada to follow conservation measures that ensure responsible and resilient resource management.
In addition, all of our wild-caught products are harvested via environment-friendly methods that do not have negative impacts on other species or the oceans’ ecosystem.
Products are quickly transported from the beaches and coastlines directly to our processing plant located in Vancouver. Every product is then tagged for traceability purposes and repackaged for export and wholesale. From here, they are delivered immediately to the airport and shipped to customers around the world.

As a third-generation family business, we know that people are the essence of any and every company. From our operations and administrative champions to the dedicated and hardworking fishermen and farmers, we take deep pride in the team that has helped shape and grow the company to where we are today.
Facilities
Registered with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Pacific Rim Shellfish works closely with them to ensure food safety by implementing Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and quality management programs in our processing plant. Being equipped with several large live tanks that draw in saltwater right from the ocean, helps to sustain and maintain the high quality of our live shellfish.

In addition to our Safe Food for Canadians Licence, Pacific Rim Shellfish is also on the limited List of Canadian Establishments Approved for Export to The People’s Republic of China and the Approved Establishment List administered by Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG-SANTE) for export into the European Union.
